INSTRUCTIONS ON SEWING A HERRINGBONE STITCH
start with an A5 sized plain cloth
fold the cloth twice, it's around 1-2 cm
get a thread with a colour that stands out from the cloth (e.g. purple thread, yellow cloth)
then tie a knot, any kind of knot
poke the thread through the 3 layers of cloth
this is a temporary stitch to hold the layers of cloth in place and acts as a guide to follow when we are sewing the permanent stitch (which will be shown later)
DO NOT END WITH A KNOT, just leave the thread there (this is a temporary knot)
now, use a thread that is the same colour as the cloth (as for this, the closest colour of the thread is orange while the cloth is yellow)
leave the thread un-tied with one end shorter than the other as shown in the picture
start poking through the 3 layers of cloth from the front of cloth
keep threading the thread through until there's only a small excess of the thread
then, poke the needle in and out of the cloth
go back to the point of where you started the knot at
then, poke the needle out of the cloth (to the front) at the other point
there you have it, a knot
when you are done with the knot, "pick" up a "scoop" (just a little bit) of the cloth with your needle in the direction of where you started your knot
"scoop" another bit of the cloth at the folded area of the cloth, while not "picking"the other 3 layers of the cloth but only "pick" one layer (top layer) of the cloth
keep sewing "v"'s until you reach the end of the cloth
at the last "v", end the knot with the same way you started
*in and out at the same point
then when you are done with the knot, YOU ARE DONE!!! HOORAY *CLAPS*
snip off the excess thread
but.... you still have to leave the cloth in a pretty cardboard (foolscap paper backing) haha
front (should be able to see all the sewing- temporary and permanent stitches all there)
back (can see the temporary and permanent stitches with the tiny "scoops" of threads only) NOTE: NO THREAD SHOULD BE SEEN AT THE FOLDED AREA EXCEPT FOR THE TEMPORARY STITCHES AND ALSO, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE OUT THE TEMPORARY STITCH
