We hope you have enjoyed camp and have enriched yourself from it. For the sec2s and 3s, we will be testing you on what you have learnt from camp. On
Term2 Week1 Wednesday, we will be holding a competition between the sec2s and sec3s to display what you have learnt about camp craft so far.
There will be four categories for the competition, so each cohort will be required to split yourselves into groups accordingly to compete in each category. Note that each guide is only allowed to participate in
one category only. The guidelines for the competition are as follows:
Tent pitching (6-8 guides per cohort)
- Pitching a ridge tent
- Only 2 mallets are allowed
- Judging criteria:
- Straight verticals
- Guylines (taut/angle)
- Pegs (size&angle)
- Neatness of pegs
- Position of mallets
- Direction of runners
- Airing of tent
- Time taken
- Team work
Creative gadgets (6-10 guides per cohort)
- Create a gadget that is new, useful and innovative (one that we have never seen before)
- Only 2 mallets are allowed
- Judging criteria:
- Time taken
- Team work
- Practicality
- Correct use of knots and lashings
- Stability
- Originality/Creativity
Kitchen Shelter (12-16 guides per cohort)
- Pitching a kitchen shelter
- Only 2 metal mallets are allowed
- Judging criteria:
- Straight verticals
- Guylines (taut/angle/direction)
- Pegs (size&angle)
- Neatness of pegs
- Correct use of knots
- Canvas (not sagging)
- Time taken
- Team work
Firelighting (6-8 guides per cohort)
- Lighting fire to boil water
- Using wood as fuel
- Judging criteria:
- Arrangement of zinc sheet and bricks
- Use of wood
- Number of match sticks used
- Time taken to boil water
- Team work
Please spend split your cohorts into the respective cohorts strategically and also plan your individual roles and time use beforehand. For creative gadgets, you may plan the design your gadget beforehand as well.
